Funding Opportunity of the Platform for the Analysis of Biopsychosocial Trajectories in Mental Health

Description:

The Platform will fund three masters, doctoral and/or postdoctoral partial stipends aimed at fostering the utilization of a new genetic database supported by the Quebec Network for Suicide, Mood Disorders, and Related Disorders (RQSHA). Directed by Professors Michel Boivin, Jean-Philippe Gouin, and Marie-Claude Geoffroy, this new genetic database is matched with extensive longitudinal phenotypic data collected from two birth cohorts, the Quebec Longitudinal Study of Child Development, and the Quebec Newborn Twin Study. Including nearly 590,000 measured genetic variants, and providing information on more than 8M variants -after imputation- for each study participant, the genetic database covers the entire genome and provides for the computation and use of a variety of polygenic risk scores (PRS). Under the guidance of the directors of the platform, and in collaboration with their supervisors, the funded students and fellows will typically examine the genetic and environmental underpinnings mental health problems including suicide.

The stipends will be awarded to student members of the RQSHA whose supervisor(s) are also RQSHA members. Matching funds is considered an advantage.

Awards

  • Two partial stipends of 10 000 $, non-renewable; for masters or doctoral students
  • One partial stipend of 20 000 $, non-renewable; for postdoctoral student

To participate

Students who wish to compete for the fellowship must:

  • Be currently enrolled as a Master or PhD student, or registered as a postdoctoral fellow
  • Submit a letter of intent (1 page) describing their interest, training and/or experience in quantitative or molecular genetic analysis, specifying the name of their supervisors and confirming their status as RQSHA members. The letter should also indicate the student’s current funding, and whether the supervisor will match the RQSHA fellowship. The candidate must commit to conducting the described project within a year if he/she is awarded funds.
  • Join a copy of their most recent transcript.
  • Join a copy of their most recent CV.

Selected candidates may be contacted for an interview.
