Neurobiology of Mood Disorders Axis: Operating subsidies for young researchers — Competition 2022-2023

Objectives of the competition

Three (3) grants are available to support young, early career investigators conducting research on the neurobiological aspects of mood disorders. The objective is to allocate the financial resources required to set up the necessary techniques and generate preliminary results that will be used to improve future funding applications to national and international organizations (CIHR, FRQS, NARSAD, etc.).

This call for applications is for projects addressing the fundamental, clinical and translational bases of the neurobiological mechanisms of mood disorders. By fundamental, we mean all projects that propose the use of models (animal, cellular, mathematical, etc.) and which aim to elucidate questions related to molecular, cellular, functional and other mechanisms involved in the expression of mood disorders. By clinical we mean all projects that aim to study specific populations with mood disorders or likely to develop them, focusing on for example the identification of biomarkers. By translational we mean all projects which aim to bridge the gap between fundamental and clinical studies as described above. Projects can also be addressing developmental principles, susceptibility/ resilience, therapeutic, phenotypic, etc.

The competition is funded by the Neurobiological Axis of Mood Disorders of the RQSHA, co-directed by Drs. Benoit Labonté and Linda Booij. In addition to promoting the development of research among researchers at the start of their careers, this competition also aims to promote the dissemination of research to the public and to raise public awareness of the importance of research in psychiatric disorders.

This competition follows the highest standards in terms of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) as formulated by the RQSHA. Priority will be given to projects that promote the application of these principles in their research programs. Finally, by accepting this funding, the selected researcher agrees to participate in the activities of the network.

Amount

Three (3) grants, of $ 20,000, non-renewable, for early career researchers (5 years from date of hire).

To apply

Researchers who wish to apply to this opportunity should:

  • Be a young researcher at the start of his/her career with a maximum of 5 years from the date of hire as an independent researcher in a Quebec university.
  • Present a section (1 page maximum) on the candidate’s experience and scientific achievements in relation to mood disorders. It will be important to demonstrate how the proposed research project fits into the candidate’s current program of research.
  • Present a research project of a maximum of two pages following the format defined by the RQSHA standards (Introduction, Objectives, Research plan, Anticipated results, Future directions, Importance of research). References can be included with a maximum of 1  additional page.
  • Present a section (1 page maximum) on how the candidate will apply the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in carrying out their research project.
  • Provide the Biosketch FRQS version of the Canadian Common CV.
  • Documents can be presented in French or English.
